March 18, 2024Singaraja, FBS – The Faculty of Languages ??and Arts, Ganesha Education University (FBS- Undiksha) held an International Conference on Language Across Cultures. The conference with the theme “Literacy Across Cultures” was attended by participants from various countries. The keynote speakers for this conference are Sanjoy Kumar Dey, M.F.A., Cora Lindsay, PhD., Prof. Yasuhiko Sukegawa, Prof. Luh Putu Artini, M.A., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Darma Putra.
Apart from that, 91 presenters will present. They come from 5 countries, namely Japan, America, England, Indonesia and Bangladesh. The topics presented at this conference were very diverse, namely English language teaching, teaching with technology, character education, education with special needs, assessment, learning media, professional development, linguistics, assessment, as well as language and arts.
Chair of the committee, Nyoman Karina Wedhanti, said that this conference aims to open the minds of academics, especially in the fields of cross-cultural language and arts education, thereby enabling cross-disciplinary research collaboration and cooperation. Karina, who is also a lecturer in the English Education Study Program, said that the hope of holding this international conference was also to publish the work of researchers at the international level. This is also in line with the internationalization vision of the Undiksha institution. He added that this conference was held virtually due to the current pandemic conditions. However, it is hoped that this will not reduce the meaning.
Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. I Gede Rasben Dantes at the opening of this conference said how important it is to learn to understand language and cultural differences in international relations, especially in sharing literacy issues across the world and cultures. It is hoped that through this conference there will be good synergy and collaboration between researchers and academics across various cultures and disciplines. (fbs)
