Singaraja, The Lontar Letters competition is one of the most important cultural competition agendas in Bali. This is related to how important script is for a regional language.

“Among the 700 regional languages ??in Indonesia, only 12 regional languages ??have scripts.” This was stated by the Dean of the Faculty of Languages ??and Arts (FBS) at Ganesha Education University, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd., in his speech opening the Lontar Nyurat Competition, a series of Language and Literature Festivals, organized by the Indonesian and Regional Language and Literature Department Student Association (HMJ BSID), representing the chancellor.

Sutama reminded me that this competition is very important in glorifying Balinese script and language. It is proven that Balinese script has been used to write various knowledge on palm leaves.

The Dean also praised HMJ BSID for being able to continue this tradition, competing for the Undiksha Rector’s Rotating Cup.

This year’s Lontar letter competition was attended by 15 participants from all over Bali, high school/vocational school students. The competition takes place online (on the network). Participants write palm letters in their respective homes and are recorded by camera. The judges observed the correspondence process from their respective places. Participants send photos of their work to the jury.
