Kanji is one of the mandatory subjects that must be taken by students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program. This course is the basis for students in learning Japanese writing. In line with this, to improve students’ abilities through Japanese writing, the Japanese Language Education Study Program held a Shodo activity, or what is often called Japanese calligraphy on April 14, 2023. This activity invited practitioners directly from Japan, namely Osawa Sensei.

Osawa Sensei is no stranger to senior students in the Japanese Language Education Study Program. He has often provided training and shared experiences with study program students. Japanese Language Education. In its implementation, Shodo is used as a New Year’s greeting, a birthday, or as a condolence message. Kadek Antarctica, who was the PIC in this activity, said that Shodo provides a new experience for students to learn more about Japanese culture as well as training on the essence of attitude, training patience, and emotions.

This activity, which involved all 4th-semester students, received a very good response in their eyes because the students got the experience of learning directly through the source, who was a teacher from Japan. It is hoped that through this activity students’ ability to write kanji will improve as well as increase their understanding of Japanese culture through Japanese calligraphy. (FBS)
