February 16, 2022Singaraja-Nyurat lontar, became one of the local wisdom inherited from ancestors for the Balinese people. This writing tradition has existed since ancient times, which generally uses Balinese script. Various things are written on palm leaf media which contain educational ideas. In the midst of an increasingly modern era, coupled with the more massive use of Latin script, the activity of lontar palms has dimmed.
Jurusan Bahasa, Sastra Indonesia dan Daerah Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) memberikan perhatian terhadap realitas itu. Upaya pelestarian dilakukan, salah satunya melalui lomba, Senin (25/10/2021).
Head of the Department of Language, Indonesian and Regional Literature, Dr. I Wayan Artika, S.Pd., M.Hum., said this activity is very important for the preservation of Balinese culture. “And this is indeed the importance of what we see, from the department’s mission, in this case the Balinese language education study program which is very closely related to writing lontar. Therefore, we are doing this activity to be a joint activity,” he said. This academic from Batungsel Village, Tabanan Regency also explained that the use of Balinese script was not as massive as Latin script. This triggers the Balinese script to be a bit pressed. Therefore, there needs to be continuous conservation efforts, as well as welcoming the programs launched by the Bali Provincial Government. “We want to donate something valuable to Balinese culture, as a tribute to the ancestors who have developed the Balinese script. Because not all languages ??have characters. Therefore, we really need the support of various parties, especially how we can implement this in the concept of an independent learning campus,” he explained.
This activity was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd. He gave his appreciation to the department of Indonesian and regional literature that has taken part in preserving Balinese culture. It is hoped that this activity can be carried out in a sustainable manner and in the future the number of participants will increase in order to maintain the existence of Balinese script. (hms)
