The Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) Singaraja held the International Conference on Language and Arts Across Cultures (ICLAAC) II, on Wednesday (28/9).

The conference with the theme ‘Understanding Human Through Languages ??and Arts’ was attended by several participants and speakers from various countries. This activity was held completely online. Several academics were key speakers at this conference, including Prof. Mayuko Hara from Osaka University, Japan, Edwin Jurriens from the University of Melbourne, Australia, as well as Prof. Dr. Ni Made Ratminingsih, MA and Dr. Hardiman from Undiksha Singaraja. Apart from that, 74 presenters will present the results of their research on language and art.

ICLAAC Organizing Chair Dr. I Gusti Ayu Lokita Purnamika Utami Spd Mpd said that this conference involved researchers, teachers, and language and arts practitioners. “The goal is to provide a forum and opportunity for them to share their research findings. “This relates to the general theme, namely understanding humans through language and art,” she explained.

“Also to improve skills and see the progress of our fellow researchers in Indonesia and the world in terms of language and arts,” she added.

ICLAAC II is also filled with virtual or online international visual exhibitions involving 145 artists from various countries. Among them, were Mexico, Israel, Portugal, Spain, America, and Australia. The various works on display include painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and digital art. The theme carried was Recollage.

According to Gusti Ayu Lokita, this exhibition was enthusiastically attended by artists who submitted works. The 200 or so works submitted were selected by a board of curators, namely Dr Hardiman from Indonesia, Elida Maria Matsumoto from Japan, and Angela Saldanha, PhD from Portugal.

Dean of the Undiksha Faculty of Languages ??and Arts, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama MPD, hopes that this conference can open up potential opportunities for collaboration between researchers and academics across countries and disciplines. “The study presented at the conference will open opportunities for further research by involving researchers from across universities and countries,” he said.

According to Prof Sutama, this conference and exhibition is a means of developing knowledge in the role of an academic community. “Through the conference, various research results and innovative ideas in the fields of language, arts, and teaching can be presented. “For friends in the arts field, they don’t just have to produce written work, they are also given space to display their work,” he said.FBS
