Prof. Dr. Sutama. (BP/istimewa)

SINGARAJA, BALIPOST.com – Faculty of Languages ??and Arts (FBS) Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), Singaraja held the election of Dean for the 2019-2023 period. As a result, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd. elected by deliberation and consensus.

In that election, this academic from Banjar Padang Tegal Kaja, Ubud competed with a candidate, Dr. I Nyoman Sila (Lecturer in the Undiksha Fine Arts Study Program). After these two candidates presented their vision mission and programs, 18 members of the Undiksha FBS Senate agreed to appoint Prof. Sutama to lead FBS for the next four years.

This position is not the first held by Prof. Sutama. In the 2006-2010 period, he also served as Dean of FBS. Apart from that, from 2002 to 2006 Prof. Sutama served as Deputy Dean I, then Deputy Chancellor (Rector) I from 2010 to 2015.

After four years out of office, his experience made his fellow lecturers at FBS put great confidence in taking over FBS for the second time. Prof. Sutama, contacted on Tuesday (6/8), said that to maintain the trust of senate members, his party had prepared a priority program. The program concerns improving the accreditation of study programs (prodi) within the FBS environment.

So far, the study program has received B accreditation. The study program has to be upgraded to A accreditation, but this has not yet been achieved. This is due to various factors, including the ratio of students to lecturers which is not yet ideal.

Apart from that, in the field of student affairs, extra activities which include talents, interests, and reasoning are still weak. Likewise, the scientific productivity of lecturers still needs to be encouraged.

Not only in terms of quantity, scientific work that must be encouraged is on a national scale which provides large amounts of funding. Apart from that, improvements to lecture infrastructure will also be fought for during his term of office. This is important because, in line with the motto of the institution based on the Tri Hita Karana (THK) philosophy, the infrastructure must be adapted to reflect the image of the institution. “These are some of the reasons why our study program has not been able to achieve A accreditation and in line with this term of office I am trying to address this with priority programs, including infrastructure issues being a priority program,” he said.

According to Prof. Mainly to boost lecturers’ scientific work, in the future, he will make a breakthrough by designing a “research clinic.” This breakthrough was created to help lecturers discuss creative ideas and prepare proposals so that they are classy and get funding at the national level.

Apart from that, the model being developed in the future is that lecturers in the FBS environment will hold focus group discussions (FGD), to test each other’s creative ideas, so that when proposals are submitted, they can compete and even get financing. “So far we have been losing upstream. National scale research submitted individually. “In the future, we will design FGDs, even though they are informal, I think this will be effective because the creative ideas that have been developed are classy and can win the competition to win national research,” he explained.
