Murals may not be very popular but they are very important for cities with high creativity in the world. Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Jakarta have various mural themes. Easily find high-quality mural art. Lucky for Singaraja City. Even though it is a remote city far from the international airport, a respected university, Undiksha, was built here. If you want to reminisce about murals, come to the Faculty of Languages ??and Arts campus from that campus.

In one corner, Fine Arts Education students created a very beautiful mural. Here murals receive respect as works of art. This faculty provides space to appreciate and produce various types of art. Even though it is in Bali and is famous for traditional art, contemporary modern art also gets a very fair share of space. In the era of social media, humans need spaces for expression, and various works can be used as visualizations, of course, the mural in the corner of the FBS campus is a very interesting choice.

This mural shows that the campus is a very strong space of appreciation. Mural is a narrative of a work of art with an ideology of rebellion against the establishment or dictatorial power; making this work of art a medium of resistance. But not all murals are like that. Murals also still have strong reality values ??and artistic roots. The murals on the FBS campus can be examples that are very decorative and have nothing to do with the ideology of rebellion, but here the murals are related to the appreciation and attitude of the campus and respect for works of art of any genre. That’s why this mural artwork is important and is a corner that marks the presence of the fine arts discipline on this campus.

Murals are always characterized by creativity and are presented as one with the environment; right in the middle of the public. It never has to be an exclusive work of art. Murals should be enjoyed together in everyday life. Murals do not have to be stored in museum rooms or galleries; murals blend with the highway, with the concrete pillars of the freeway or overpass. The mural blends with the big city noise, pollution, and sewer smell; as if the mural wanted to be a bridge to social gaps in the city; among the dust and buildings with a thousand refrigerated rooms.

The presence of the mural on the FBS campus aims to respond to the wishes of campus residents to make this campus creative. Creativity certainly gets a new meaning amidst digitalism, virtualism, and the world of revolution 4.0. The mural is an icon of how this campus is moving towards very high creative energy to facilitate the desires of millennial students so that they still have critical power and artistic energy.

Apart from being a public art medium, it is also a space to mark the presence of the subject. Especially in the era of social media, murals have become spot photo that meets the requirements. Mural art is very common, but for people in small towns, it is still relatively unfamiliar. The economic value of murals may not be much, but murals have social, political, and ideological value. That’s why murals exist as a medium of expression for a group of people who are usually marginalized groups. The mural is a space for the marginalized and the artist’s involvement in it. That’s why murals make the authorities careful.

The presence of murals on the FBS campus is not linear with this theory or concept because here the murals are presented as education and guidance or to stimulate appreciation from campus residents, especially among students. The scientific community not only thinks critically but also has artistic energy. Murals are of course a way to awaken students’ artistic generators. Murals will develop that the artistic view is not only about painting, sculpture, dance, and music but also murals that spread freely and boldly in public spaces filling empty voids with powerful expression and artistic power. Enjoying a mural is enjoying pieces of dialogue or discourse that are being developed because a mural will mark a short period of the social history of a city or country. Murals are not only to be seen visually but murals must also be read textually.
