Reflect Study of FKIP Bengkulu University to PBSI FBS Undiksha: Strengthening Synergy in Indonesian Language Education
February 17, 2025Gianyar – Dr. I Wayan Gede Wisnu, S.S., M.Si., a lecturer from the Balinese Language Education Study Program FBS Undiksha, served as one of the three keynote speakers at the 4th Makantisastra Seminar organized by Balinese language instructors under the auspices of the Gianyar Regency Cultural Office, Friday, October 25, 2024. The seminar, held at the Masceti Subak Museum, Gianyar, adopted the theme Basa Warna Rasa and was attended by Balinese language instructors and internship students from the Gianyar Cultural Office.
In his presentation titled “The Phenomenon of Literacy in Balinese Spelling,” Dr. Wisnu highlighted several challenges associated with the transmission of Balinese script. He explained that Balinese literacy shares a historical connection with the Sanskrit script, which poses ongoing challenges in adapting to Balinese spelling using Latin letters. Additionally, he underscored the complexities of understanding and applying script pairs, which p[resent significant obstacles in preserving the authenticity of Balinese language in the modern era.
Dr. Wisnu further emphasized that the complexity of Balinese script extends beyond technical aspects, encompassing a profound understanding of Balinese culture. He expressed hope that through this seminar, Balinese language instructors would become more adept at correctly applying and teaching the Balinese script.
Joining Dr. Wisnu as keynote speakers were Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nyoman Suwija, M.Hum., from PGRI Mahadewa University Indonesia, and Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nyoman Suarka, M.Hum., from Udayana University.
The Head of Gianyar Regency Culture Office expressed appreciation for the event, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the capacity of Balinese language instructors in preserving and developing Balinese language and literature.
